Custom Power-ups

How will StreamAlertsTV provide Custom Power-ups?

Twitch recently announced an exciting new feature: the ability for streamers to create Custom Power-ups. This opens the door for new interactions, creative monetization, and a more engaging stream experience. But this raises a key question: How will StreamAlertsTV integrate Custom Power-ups?

What are Power-ups?

Power-ups are designed to let viewers react to specific moments on stream using Bits, encouraging participation and engagement in real time. They can trigger fun, interactive moments that enhance the live-streaming experience. There are currently three native versions: an on-screen celebration, a message effect, and a gigantified emote.

StreamAlertsTV & Custom Power-ups

StreamAlertsTV takes on-screen celebrations literally. We have set new boundaries of audience engagement with our award-winning Lights Out! game, which transformed interactions on Twitch, giving streamers new ways to entertain and monetize. Now, with Twitch’s Power-ups on the horizon, we see an opportunity to take things even further. Let's first take the native power-ups and then check what might be possible.

Our Vision for Power-ups on StreamAlertsTV

  • On-Screen CelebrationThe huge difference with StreamAlertsTV is that the streamer witnesses the celebration, not just other viewers. These effects will complement each other, not become duplicated visual noise, and still feel like a celebratory moment.
  • Gigantify EmotesThis is a no-brainer here. We already have emotes appearing from the chat; customizing a bigger emote is an easy addition, but it will be funny to imagine beating the final boss while giant Kappa cubes fly around the screen.
  • Message EffectsAssuming moderation is automated and trustworthy (see further comment), we can do a lot of cool stuff to display your message, such as a new reel, pop-up banners, a walking robot, you name it.

Sharing any message in the chat means moderation. Moderation often equals manual intervention by mods or the broadcaster. If we give it presence on the screen, it will become part of the vod, highlighting the message for good and bad reasons. We need to explore Twitch’s moderation tools further before fully committing to Custom Power-ups.

What’s Next?

Our team is actively looking into integrating Custom Power-ups into StreamAlertsTV. While Twitch has yet to roll out the full details of how Custom Power-ups will work, we’re committed to adapting and innovating so our users stay ahead of the curve.

Are you excited about Custom Power-ups? Let us know what kinds of interactions you’d love to see added to StreamAlertsTV!
